Farm Manager – Goodwill of Middle Georgia and the CSRA
Goodwill Industries of Middle Georgia & The CSRA is seeking a Farm Manager to create and grow agriculture program. The Farm Manager will oversee all aspects of farm production to support the needs of its farm to table culinary program while providing experiential learning opportunities to students of Helms College. Helms College, operated by Goodwill Industries of Middle Georgia & The CSRA, (www.helms.edu) is the first Goodwill post secondary educational venture of its kind and offers fully accredited curriculum of certificate, diploma and degree programs. It embodies a unique integration of experiential learning, intensive student advisement and mentoring services to achieve middle skills career advancement.
While creating a positive and vibrant learning environment for students and employees, the Farm Manager will oversee all agricultural activities of the farm which will feature in ground planting as well as greenhouse and vertical farming. The Farm Manager will be responsible for planning and implementing the planting and harvest schedule, maintenance of equipment and property, institution of and adherence to quality control measures for all production and scheduling the production staff and student workers. Also a part of the Farm Manager’s responsibilities will be assisting with the development and leading of workshop sessions/demonstrations for students and guests, creation of curriculum materials for educational sessions and oversight of the design and execution of special events, projects and activities. Future growth potential includes management of multi farming locations.
Qualifications:
The requirements for this position include a BS degree in the field of Agriculture (graduate degree preferred, five years of full-season farm management, including creating business, production, post-harvest handling, and marketing plans. Demonstrated experience in project, program and/or organizational management is also required as is supervisory experience in an agricultural setting. The Farm Manager must also have a mechanical aptitude and experience operating and maintaining irrigation systems, farm machinery, truck and small engines, greenhouse growing systems and have excellent computer skills with proficiency with MS Office.
