Under the general supervision of the Health and Wellness Program Manager, the Urban Agriculture Supervisor is in charge of the maintenance and development of TNDC’s Urban Farms and Rooftop Gardens, and supervises the Urban Agriculture Coordinators.
TNDC has a strong commitment to addressing health equity and food insecurity by improving access to fresh and healthy food. Our Urban Agriculture Component consists of 11+ rooftop gardens/farms located in our housing sites and open to our tenants, + 2 ground level urban farms that are open to the community and serving the Tenderloin and Western Addition Districts. Our farms have yielded up to 4,500 pounds of fresh produce in a year--all of which are distributed free to our low-income communities in Central City. The Urban Agriculture Supervisor is a public-facing role and interacts with residents, TNDC staff, individual and corporate volunteers, and the general public on a regular basis.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
◠Supervise and coordinate day-to-day operations of TNDC’s Tenderloin People’s Garden, Webster Street People’s Garden, and rooftop garden/farms
â— Manage the growth and distribution of crops
◠Supervise Urban Agriculture Coordinators ​
â— Track program expenses.
â— Supervise and coordinate individual community volunteers
◠Schedule and manage corporate volunteer groups in collaboration with the Urban Agriculture Coordinators and TNDC’s Volunteer and Corporate Outreach Coordinator
â— Manage purchase order system for all garden supplies.
â— Populate garden data collection.
â— Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to expand community garden programming.
â— Participate in the development for future TNDC community garden footprint.
â— Other duties as assigned.

â— Ability and willingness to work with staff and community members from diverse cultural backgrounds.

◠Working knowledge of computer programs - PC’s, Microsoft Software including Outlook. Current driver’s license and clean driving record.
â— Ability to lift up to 75 lbs.
Qualifications:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
◠Bachelor’s degree in Horticulture, Sustainable Agriculture, Master Gardening, Vegetable Gardening, Community Development or other related fields.
â— Two to three years of experience and working knowledge related to managing community gardens and urban farming
â— Two to three years of experience supervising staff, interns and/or volunteers allied with Urban Gardening.
â— Demonstrated knowledge and advocacy associated with the food inequity movement on local and statewide levels.
â— Demonstrated experience with project management tools.
â— Demonstrated experience working in cross-cultural environments.
â— Able to perform hard and repetitive physical work outside in all weather conditions.
â— Available for some evening and weekend hours, as needed.
â— Adaptive leadership skills
â— Self-starter, with excellent ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities, follow-through and meet deadlines.
â— Highly organized, with excellent attention to detail.
â— Ability to file and organize electronic and paper documents.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
â— Bilingual (Cantonese-English, Spanish-English)
â— Ability to understand and share experience in serving low income communities
â— Experience with operating and maintaining irrigation systems
â— Ability to maintain attractive, productive, and ecologically friendly growing spaces
â— Knowledge in developing and managing a Greenhouse
â— Ability to intersect gardening, food, and health in program development
